The architectural artwork of Bergami Center is inspired by the workings within: Science, Technology, Innovation, and Craft. The installations evoke a sense of transformation in order to bring attention to the process of creative innovation in

all sectors. In particular, the graphics aim to highlight the process by which our thoughts, ideas, or sketches evolve from concepts, to experiments, to solutions which are tangible, measurable, or useful.

Concept Development

The initial folding paper exercises aided in solidifying the concept expression and final tessellation form.

In search of the right massing and folding shapes, a series of design schemes were tested through various materials and support hardware including  cardboard, plywood and MDF cut on CNC machine.

Construction

Final construction, as documented

in Revit, consisted of twenty 24x35x4” assembled MDF modules and twelve shallower modules, powder-coated to match wall. Modules are grouped, partially pre-assembled on frames, and  z-clipped to plywood blocking. Twelve “free floating” polycarbonate elements are cable-mounted to trusses above.
